The Peak Load Management Association (PLMA) recently published “The Future of Distributed Energy Resources,” a compendium of eight articles detailing industry initiatives that demonstrate a path for utilities to integrate grid-edge DERs into their operations.

EnergyHub’s innovative Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program with National Grid was featured in the compendium. The article outlined how EnergyHub, National Grid, and Sunrun worked together to expand the utility’s successful “ConnectedSolutions” Bring Your Own Thermostat® (BYOT) program by adding a battery energy storage component.

PLMA DER compendium“The early success of our BYOD program with National Grid has been very exciting, especially as the demand response impact from energy storage and thermostats increases as we help the program scale,” said Chris Ashley, VP of Utility Sales at EnergyHub. “To be recognized by PLMA — one of the most highly regarded thought-leadership organizations in our industry — is yet another positive outcome from what's been a great experience with National Grid so far.”

EnergyHub's article covers the process for standing up the storage component of the program, the key results and learnings from demand response events in the summer of 2018, and the optimizations based on those results. The article also dives into the potential of ConnectedSolutions as it continues to scale.

The full compendium is available for download on PLMA’s website, where you can register for the upcoming Load Management Dialogue webinar on May 2, in which the co-chairs of PLMA’s DER Integration Group will discuss the case studies in the compendium.

Experts from EnergyHub, National Grid, and Sunrun will also be presenting results from the utility program at the upcoming 39th PLMA Conference in Minneapolis, Minn. on May 14. You can learn more about the conference, view the agenda, and register here.
