New York, NY – September 14, 2016 – EnergyHub, the leading provider of connected device and distributed energy resource management for utilities, has launched a demand response program with Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) and its member cooperatives. ODEC joins more than 30 utilities that trust EnergyHub and its Mercury demand response platform to manage their demand response programs.

ODEC, a not-for-profit, member-owned, power supply cooperative, is headquartered in Glen Allen, Virginia, and has 11 electric distribution member cooperatives. The member cooperatives provide electricity to 1.4 million people in Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland.

By partnering with EnergyHub, ODEC is giving its distribution cooperatives the opportunity to deploy demand response programs using EnergyHub’s Mercury platform. ODEC’s program allows its cooperatives to use Mercury’s sophisticated, data-driven demand response capability to run either Bring Your Own Thermostat® (BYOT) and traditional, direct-install demand response programs.

BYOT is a customer-centric approach to demand response that allows consumers to buy and install the connected thermostat of their choice and enroll that thermostat in a utility demand response program. Mercury is the most widely used platform for BYOT demand response and is optimized to maximize customer yield in BYOT programs. Mercury is integrated with all leading connected thermostat manufacturers and is equipped with a sophisticated customer enrollment portal designed specifically for onboarding BYOT participants.

ODEC cooperatives that choose to deploy a direct-install program through EnergyHub can partner with their choice of the leading thermostat vendors to select the device that best suits their needs for customer engagement and load control capability, all while enjoying EnergyHub’s turnkey services including hardware procurement and installation.

“We’re excited that ODEC and its member cooperatives chose Mercury as their connected thermostat platform to help them achieve their load reduction goals,” said Seth Frader-Thompson, Co-Founder and President of EnergyHub. “ODEC’s commitment to offering affordable, reliable energy while reducing its environmental footprint fits well with our approach to demand response.”

“EnergyHub’s platform makes it easy for ODEC’s member cooperatives to use leading connected thermostats as demand response assets,” said Erin Puryear, Manager, Member Services & Energy Innovation Planning at ODEC. “Working with EnergyHub enables us to offer our cooperatives a truly customizable demand response experience, with maximum flexibility in terms of program design and choice of hardware. We’re excited to expand our services in a way that enhances our reliability and furthers our commitment to providing low-cost energy solutions to our members.”
